Your Guide to Mineral Makeup
Veronica: Mineral make up is becoming more and more popular in today’s beauty market but do we really know all the facts. Hi, I’m Veronica with watchmojo.com and today, we’re getting a lesson in mineral makeup from Bhavna Khanna. What is the difference between chemical makeup and mineral make up?
Bhavna Khanna: Chemical makeup traditionally has many things that are bad for your skin such as oil, such as fragrances, such as dyes, formaldehyde, and that this goes on and on. Mineral makeup is different because it has pure minerals in it. They don’t dry out your skin. They balance the moisture in your skin. They let your skin breathe. They have anti-inflammatory properties. Essentially, it is makeup that’s healing your skin, minerals that behave like makeup.
Veronica: Is this suitable for all skin types?
Bhavna Khanna: It’s a makeup that is excellent for anyone because it does balance the moisture in the skin so nothing goes in and nothing comes out.
Veronica: Now, when we think of mineral makeup, we always think of that natural look, can you still have that smokey eye evening look with this type of product?
Bhavna Khanna: Absolutely. People think that eco-friendly means boring. It’s not true. Minerals just mean it’s derived from rock but you can have reds, you can have blues, deep colors and beautiful, beautiful colors.
Veronica: What are the main minerals that are used?
Bhavna Khanna: The most important one is titanium dioxide. This is what gives the minerals the SPF protection. All the makeup from the loose minerals to the blush ton the eyeshadow has an SPF factor of 20. The second important mineral is iron oxides. This is the source of color. The third mineral is bismuth oxychloride. This was initially put into the loose mineral because it was developed for post operative care in dermatologist and plastic surgeons offices. So, this mineral has anti-inflammatory properties which expedite the healing process. And lastly, we have zinc oxide which makes all the minerals naturally waterproof.
Veronica: Do you apply this type of makeup differently?
Bhavna Khanna: Yes because it is such a pure makeup line. You do not need to apply a lot. And you do not need to apply all day long. It doesn’t crease, it doesn’t break so you can put it on at five in the morning and get home in the evening and it looks like you’ve just applied it.
Veronica: Well, thank you very much. That was very informational.
