Your First Toolkit: Renter
Featured Pro: Eric Stromer Category: Home Improvement Time: 1:58
ERIC STROMER: Hey, I’m Eric Stromer. Here’s your GMC Trade Secret.
I’m going to show you the essential toolkit for renters or college students. Come on.
I’m here at Crown City Hardware with my friend Jason. We’re going to put together a toolkit for a college-age person or maybe a first-time renter.
So Jason, what have we got here?
JASON: Well, we start off with a hammer.
ERIC: Yeah.
JASON: Lightweight hammer.
ERIC: That’s a good size. That’ll fit into a small tool case. This is good for hanging pictures; not too heavy, easy to manage. Great. Maybe a tape measure?
JASON: We’ve got one right here.
ERIC: Twenty-five footer. That’s reaching up to about seven feet. That’s a great little item. Perfect.
Maybe – I’m thinking maybe some pliers. Yeah, we like these.
JASON: We like the real slip-joint pliers right there.
ERIC: Slip-joint pliers. That’s always good for a first tool set. And maybe a utility knife.
JASON: Utility knife. I’ve got a good one right here – aluminum.
ERIC: Awesome. Great. And I’m also thinking – what else have we got? Oh, maybe a flashlight. How about that?
JASON: Got a flashlight up there.
ERIC: You like that one?
JASON: Yeah.
ERIC: Okay, good.
JASON: Also maybe some Allen wrenches.
ERIC: You know what, this is good, because a lot of kids or first-time renters are buying furniture that you need to assemble –
JASON: Yeah.
ERIC: - from some of those bigger stores. Those work out great; essential.
Okay, let’s see. What else?
JASON: We’ve got a torpedo level.
ERIC: Great for hanging pictures.
JASON: Hanging pictures.
ERIC: You’ve got your horizontal leveling or your vertical. You can measure it either way. That’s a good first item too.
JASON: And I think I’ve got here a ten-piece screwdriver set, all in one, with ratchet.
ERIC: That’s got a little ratcheting set. You can forward, reverse, and a couple of different heads on that.
JASON: Yeah.
ERIC: That’s perfect. Great.
I think that’s about it, except we’ve got to have something to hold it in, don’t we?
JASON: Yeah.
ERIC: All right, good. So why don’t we get ourselves a little tool tote like that, and all for around just under 100 bucks.
JASON: About a hundred bucks.
ERIC: I think you’ve got yourself a great first tool set.
JASON: All right.
ERIC: All right. Well, there you go. There’s your GMC Trade Secret. I’m Eric Stromer. Don’t be afraid to buy yourself some tools.
