Rhonda Kantor explains the benefits of exercise and yoga for the pregnant woman.

Dr. Lauren Streicher: If it’s a normal low risk pregnancy meaning the women are not having any complication and there is nothing in particular that were concerned about, we tell her that she should continue to exercise throughout her pregnancy.
Rhonda Kantor: Yoga is a safe and gentle approach to doing a form of exercise.
Kathy Jordan: Jogging or aerobics seemed a little too harsh and yoga is a lot smoother, you work out your muscles without jogging yourself too much.
Megan Littlefield: I used to be quite an avid jogger and I found that early on my pregnancy I just wasn’t able to keep up the jogging routine that I had.
Dr. Lauren Streicher: A lot of people do keep tract of they're heart rate and we tell them that when pregnant they should go only to 60% of the maximum heart rate that they use to go to before they were pregnant. If someone can talk while they're exercising and they're not out of breath, that means that they're getting oxygen and therefore they're baby is getting oxygen. If they find that they're not able to comfortably talk, if they're out of breath and they’ve got to bring they're level of they're exercise.
Rhonda Kantor: Focus all of your awareness to your internal body. In every class we practice a beginning meditation and breathing exercises, we take care with the joints. Pregnant women often are over flexible and can be more most susceptible to injury.
Dr. Lauren Streicher: After 20 weeks of pregnancy there should be no exercise lying flat on the back. The reason for that is that the uterus enlarges to the point that if someone is lying flat on their back it actually puts pressure on the major blood vessels that lead to the placenta. And with the extra oxygen used that occurs when someone is exercising that means the baby may get short changed or the mothers blood pressure may drop.
They also question about dehydration. When a woman is pregnant, she needs a lot more water and when someone exercises particularly when they're pregnant, they're sweating a lot more. And when gets dehydrated in pregnancy it does make her much more prone to passing out and to not feeling well. So well tell all pregnant women that if they're going to exercise particular if its hot out they need to drink and drink and drink.
Elizabeth Reichelt: I do a combination of yoga and jogging so in addition to stretching and toning, I also great a deal of relaxation and mental peace and calmness out of it.
