Some decent news for Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer’s first day on the job — quarterly earnings beat expectations. The Next Web has the numbers .

The web giant reported $1.22 billion in revenue for the quarter. Earnings per share of 27 cents beat expectations. Search revenue was $461 million, a one-percent drop from last year.

The Wall Street Journal calls it a “perfectly decent” report. Yahoo stayed more or less level , despite a $129 million restructuring charge it took as part of its company-wide reorganization.

“Display advertising sort of inched along, relatively flat, search advertising up slightly, I suppose. The big issue I guess was restructuring costs, which ate into profit.”

It has been a busy quarter for Yahoo. And the company kept its head above water the whole time. paidContent says it’s quite the feat .

“The quarter that ended June 30th included the start of a major re-org, layoffs and the ousting of Scott Thompson, the CEO who set both in motion… (That anyone could function at all in the midst of that, much less make some improvements, is a minor corporate miracle.)”

The Verge reports Mayer appears to be easing into her role . Yahoo CFO Tim Morse led the call.

“Typically, Yahoo would end the call with some forward-looking statements. But given the circumstances, Morse said, ‘we believe it's best to give our new CEO time to get acclimated to Yahoo before providing any future guidance.’"

The call suggested Morse knows where Yahoo needs to go, though. Forbes has his quote — the company needs to do lots of things well if it wants to succeed.

“‘We need to be really good at certain technologies and we need to be really good at content. Both of those are imperative to our success. It’s a powerful combination when we get it right.’”

Yahoo’s stock, meanwhile, didn’t move much on the news of the call. The Wall Street Journal reports it was up six-tenths of a percent after hours on Tuesday.
