HLN has the details . “Besse Cooper was 116, she passed away yesterday in a nursing home in Monroe, Georgia.  According the Guinness Book of World Records, Betsy was only one of eight people who ever lived to be that age.” Her son says she died peacefully Tuesday. CNN reports Cooper was actually among the first women to ever vote in the state of Georgia. “Before women gained the right to vote in 1920, Besse Cooper joined the suffrage movement. Then 24, the Georgia school teacher registered women to vote and spoke to others about the importance of having a voice in politics. Cooper voted in every election after the 19th Amendment was passed, save for two.”  According to ABC News , “Cooper married … in 1924, and … had four children. She [also] had 12 grandchildren and more than a dozen great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren … ”  In a 2011 interview for the Guinness Book of World Records Cooper said the secret to her longevity is … "I mind my own business … And I don't eat junk food."  The Associated Press notes the tallest woman in the world also passed away less than a month ago at the age of 39. The Guinness Book of World Records has her listed as 7-feet and 7-inches tall.
