The southern Philippine town of Bunawan was home to the 21 foot long reptile,  weighing more than a ton. The Guinness Book of World Records gave it the title largest croc in captivity in 2011. The reptile -- dubbed Lolong -- was named after one of the hunters who died from a heart attack while trying to capture it. It’s believed the giant crocodile was to blame for the death of a village fisherman and a teenage girl... whose bodies were never found. Steel cable traps and more than 100 villagers  were needed to drag it’s body out of the marsh they found it. [Video: BBC ] While the exact cause of its own death is still unknown, city officials say the crocodile reportedly had been in pain since it swallowed a nylon cord several weeks earlier. It took more than 100 villagers to haul its body out of a marsh. [Video: Brisbane Times ] The crocodile put the once unheard of town on the map. It quickly became a source of livelihood for the residents, serving as the main tourist attraction for the village.  [Video: DJO ] When the news broke of Lolong’s death, villagers reportedly gathered in the streets and cried. The town’s mayor said there are plans to have the reptile preserved and put on display.
