The number of apps in the store has grown rapidly from 9,000 on the day of Windows 8’s launch. This rapid growth means 415 applications are added each day. These numbers can be found via MetroStore Scanner , a web-based scanner which allows users on multiple platforms to discover what’s available in Window’s application store. Though this large number seems promising, a writer for The Next Web says not to get too excited , citing the need for key apps—a quality over quantity argument. “The natural caveat to this sort of discussion is that the number of applications for a platform is just that: a statistic. The average quality of the applications contained in the marketplace, and the presence of key apps, can be more important.” And key apps might still be a ways off. Softpedia says many tech companies have been largely absent from Windows 8 development  thus far. “While Google has already released some apps for Microsoft’s new platform, a company official recently revealed that no other similar projects would be unveiled in the near future. … Facebook representatives indicated that no official client for Windows 8 is in the works right now, so adopters of the new operating system need to turn to unofficial software.” But a writer for WinBeta says this milestone is a positive for the Redmond-based company , stating “This is great news for the platform as it shows that developers are taking interest and creating apps for Windows 8...” According to VentureBeat , another huge social media player, Twitter, is building an application for Windows 8, though a timetable has not been released.
