Welcome to PC Wiz Kids Tech Talk, today I wanted to show you what is compatible with your machine when it comes to Windows 7 because a lot of question out there on can I upgrade to Windows 7 with my PC? Well, Microsoft has put out upgrade advisor tool that you can download for free and it will scan your machine and then give you a report on any issues relating to your PC for upgrading to Windows 7. So, I’m going to give you the website here so you can go and download it for free so, here it is Microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/upgrade-advisor.aspx and on the website you are going to see here that you can download the utility for free just click on the button there and download the small little utility from Microsoft. It will scan your PC and take awhile because it’s going to go to every piece of hardware that you might have connected to it, your sound card, your video card and all of that stuff. So after you download it just to install it just like you would in any other program that’s not out of the ordinary so you just go ahead and install it and then up comes the program. Once you’ve done, you run it and click on the button to start to check, right? And let it scan for a compatibility and it will give you a report then after a while because it does take a long time to scan everything and tell you okay what pass and any suggestions. So, for example it’s giving a suggestion to make you a backup your stuff obviously and it also check and see how much space you’ve got, you need 16 gigs free if you are installing 32 bit version, 20 gigabytes free if you are installing the 64 bit version. This is a laptop. I’ve got an old laptop that I’m running here with Windows XP on it. So for all of you they’re asking what if I have Windows XP on an old laptop. Well, this one will actually pass, I can actually install Windows 7 on this older laptop it’s a 2.16 gigahertz with 2 gigs of RAM running Windows XP and you can see that it is capable of Windows 7 for sure and there are some minor things that it pointed out but overall the hardware passed all the checks that it did so I’m happy with that on this older laptop with XP. So, there you go. Now, going back to the results, it also scans for software obviously so I had some older software that it came with. That it mentioned that I probably have to either reinstall or it might have some compatibility issues, some minor issues with it because it wasn’t designed for Windows 7. It was for Windows XP for example, so it might make those recommendations as you go through the report you will see that? Now, I get do some tasks with Window 7 with some all the new games so, here’s our lists. It’s a small list. It’s not everything obviously but here is a list to give you and idea on the types of games that I have verified work in Windows 7. Okay, so it gives you an idea. Here is a list of Apps and utilities that I’ve also verified work in Windows 7. It’s a small list. It’s not a big list but many more programs work in Windows 7 fine as well. Right too much dimension so, anyways I hope you guys tried out and try the advisor tool and maybe they’ll clear up some questions for you. So, I hope you enjoy this video and thank you for watching.
