ERIC STROMER: Welcome to GMC Trade Secrets. I’m Eric Stromer. And I’m here to show you a simple way to keep your home safe and secure by installing the proper window locks. Come on, I’ll show you how.
Window locks are most effective when they provide a visual deterrent. Now, here we have a sash lock, which is essentially a latch that can be locked or unlocked with a simple turn. Now, they’re an ideal lock for home security as they’re difficult to unlock from the outside.
Now, another option for sash windows is a hinge lock. Simply flicking the hinge out prevents the window from sliding open.
A pin lock is made by boring a hole in the frame. A pin is put through the hole, preventing it from opening.
Now, some people like to use key locks, but I recommend you don’t use them. They could cut off an escape route during an emergency. Also key locks may violate building codes or invalidate your homeowners’ insurance.
Well, these are just a few of the many options you have for window locks.
