Robin Williams' preliminary cause of death is asphyxia due to hanging - that's according to a rep for the Marin County coroner's office who spoke about the actor's death on Tuesday (August 12). Among the details revealed at a news conference was that Williams' body was discovered by a personal assistant on Monday (August 11) with a belt wrapped around his neck. SOUNDBITE: Lt. Keith Boyd, Marin County Sheriff's Office and Assistant Chief Deputy Coroner, saying (English): "Mr. Williams' personal assistant became concerned at approximately 11:45 am when he failed to respond to knocks on his bedroom door. At that time the personal assistant was able to gain access to Mr. Williams' bedroom and entered the bedroom to find Mr. Williams clothed in a seated position, unresponsive, and with a belt secured around his neck with the other end of the belt wedged between the closed closet door and door frame." The actor also had superficial cuts on his wrists and had sought treatment for depression in the time leading up to his death. Media crews staked out the actor's Northern California home, where neighbors expressed their shock at his passing. SOUNDBITE: Agne Correll saying (English): "We were proud to be in the same town. I own a business in Mill Valley and he just walked by with a coffee and just smiles." SOUNDBITE: Maria Nedir saying (English): "He was just a regular guy and nice to all the kids and moms and just a regular neighbor. No star status." Outside his hometown, Hollywood and the world mourned the death of Williams, who was not only an A-list comedic actor, but also an acclaimed dramatic actor, having won an Oscar for his turn in 1997's "Good Will Hunting."
