Wild Chickens in Fitzgerald Georgia
Alesia Biggers: Fitzgerarld has become finesse where the wild Barnes pal is the name of which come our little chickens around here. They were experiment fro the Department Natural Resources. They actually located on the muddy river back in the sixties and they thought there going to be the next big, wild game bird.
For people come down here and hunt and when they brought them down got them down the river banks which is probably about 15 miles from us. The critters down there got messing with them and eat them, eat the eggs out of there nest and they just did like down there. And it just didn’t walk out in the Department of Natural Resources and abandoned program.
Then the chicken that they rather come to and live in the city, so now they live in harmony with us in Fitzgerald and either love the chickens or you hate the chickens and depending on what kind of gardener you are. If you are a big flower person and have a lot of plants throughout in the yard you’re not going to like the chickens but if you are an animal loved and your really going to love them in their, their just the brought, their beautiful and their just, and just fun to watch.
MALE: Though chicken seem to be Fitzgerald present claim to fame the town is also remarkable because it’s in the heart of the confederacy yet was settled by retired Northern soldiers who apparently were attracted to the region because they were tired of the cold weather up North.
