First, let’s take a quick look at the breakdown as it stands (MAP VIA NATIONAL ARCHIVES ): - 63.7% WHITE NOT HISPANIC OR LATINO - 16.4% LATINO - 12.6% AFRICAN AMERICAN - 4.8% ASIAN But by 2043, the Census Bureau says , no more white majority, and by 2060: - 43% WHITE - 31% HISPANIC - 14.7% AFRICAN AMERICAN - 8% ASIANS Among the reasons, the Census Bureau cites, is a higher birth rate among minorities. There are already major cities in the U.S. with non-white majorities, like Honolulu, Atlanta and Miami. And the changing demographics nationwide could see other changes. VIA WRC : “The shift is reshaping school, the workforce and traditional voting blocs.” Already analysts are discussing whether the projections have political implications. This past election cycle, 78% of nonwhite voters went for President Obama’s reelection, sparking a discussion about how Republicans plan to reach out to minorities. Today the U.S. population stands at nearly 315 million people. The Census Bureau predicts it’ll reach 420 million by 2060.
