Hey, welcome to watchmojo.com. I’m your host Marissa. And today is Memorial Day. It’s a Federal Holiday in United States and use to be known as Decoration Day. It celebrates the lives of the many women who died for their country.
In the beginning, it only celebrated those who had died during the American Civil War but after the First World War, it included all men and women who died during the war or military action.
According to the story, on May 5th 1866, the city of Waterloo, New York—flex the half staff organize a parade and held the ceremony in each of the street cemeteries. A hundred years later, it was given the official designation as the birthplace of Memorial Day. So, while you’re enjoying your long weekend, take a minute to remember those who made it possible to enjoy.
