Melanie Raposo: Hi! Everybody I'm Melanie Raposo and welcome to Mommy's Minute. Some women experience hyper-lactation meaning an over abundance of breast milk. This cause the milk to spray or leak during breast feeding which can cause a baby to choke or gag. Here are some tips to prevent this. Breast feed while lying on your back with your baby feeding on top of you will slow the supply of milk. Another great thing to do is have your baby's feeding sitting up. Another great tip is to expel a little bit of breast milk right before you breast feed. This will get the first initials squirts out of the way. Lastly try feeding your baby on one breast for at least three feedings. If the other breast feels full, to relieve the pain express a little bit of milk from that breast. If hyper-lactation does not settle within a few weeks you should consult your physician immediately as it could be a sign of hormonal imbalance.
