Ryo: Long is my journey, and bitter was the wind and ice. My feet aches and my stomach growls, but my hunger for knowledge propelled me on.
White balance, it confounded me then. What witchery is it? I know lens, glass. I know sound, microphone, but white balance? I need enlightenment. I tried to learn by the words bedeviled me. Colour temperature, what madness?
I set out to seek the cave across the frozen, pointless void until at last, I came to the entrance. All was gloomed, where was the one I sought?
Black body radiator, face me.
Mike: Who disturbs my slumber?
Ryo: It is I, Ryo of camera.
Mike: Oh, hey dude. How’s it going?
Ryo: I seek enlightenment.
Ryo: I am permitted one question, am I not?
Mike: You can ask me as many questions as you like. I’m just glad to have company.
Ryo: And you must speak the truth.
Mike: I don’t know why I would lie. I just want some company.
Ryo: Quiet sister God. Answer me this. What is color temperature.
Mike: I am the body radiator, the perfect object do not exist. I am the ideal, the perfect construction of man in laws of physics. I emit and reflect no light when I am cold but like all things in this universe and every other, when heated, I emit light.
Ryo: Go on.
Mike: Have you seen an element and its orange glow or spoke of the term white hot? When you anything in this universe is heated, it emits light. The lower the temperature, the moreover it glows. The hotter the temperature, the more it emits. A match emits red light, the light of the perfect radiance that I need would emit if it was heated to 30 to 200 degrees scale. Sunlight is a bluish light, the light to earth radiate to like. It is over 6000 degrees. If you seek, go ask. If you seek the path of the right, take what you learn this day and in my day. Leave how you came. Leave now!
Ryo: And so I went with one part of the puzzle, colour temperature. I still had much to learn about white balance and I would have time on my trek to ponder what I had learned in that cave of ovens, and the glow of hot metal.
