Really is amazing how much of our life has become digital especially when it comes to our media files. I'm talking about things like music, our digital photos, even video now. On my little portable hard drive, I've literally got thousands of photos, songs, and even all my favorite TV shows and movies. And the nice thing is with the right type of player, where you hook that into one of the latest video game consoles or right into your computer or a Media Center, you can then play them back on a big screen TV. Well I want to show you something today from Western Digital that I thought is a must have for anyone that has digital media files. It’s the Western Digital HD media player. And this little unassuming little box here will work with pretty well with any USB hard drive or thumb stick and play all the media files on it to any TV, which is a great thing. On the back we've got all sorts of connections. We've got some RCA connections for the old fashioned TVs. and this is the best part here, the HDMI connection. This is for all the latest flat screen LCD and plasma monitors and televisions. And so the idea behind this, you basically take your USB drive and this got two USB ports that you could plug into. So I'm going to plug this into the back here. And this will basically start browsing through my hard drive and then sort out all that content for me in a really easy to use menu. I can go from like music to digital pictures. There's the settings and here's the video. Then I can browse the media files in a number of different ways. Right here I've got just all video if I want to go in there. I can also go in and see what the latest video I've added to the hard drive. And also folders, and this is how I kind of organize my video. And what I like about this is that when I go into the video section, it just seeks out all the video on the hard drive. I don’t get it all mix in with all the photos and the music. When it comes to video, it recognizes AVI files, DivX, MKV files which is kind of the latest ones. It will even recognize VOB files from movies that you’ve ripped right off DVDs. You're not going to get the DVD menus, but you will be able to go and see the different video sections. This is a British show that I like to watch, it’s called Still Game. And I can just simply click on the video and presto kazinga, where off to the races. Like I said, it works not only with video but also great with pictures. You can do slideshows and music. I mean literally this is a party in a box. You can take your hard drive in this box at anyone’s house and see all of your media anytime you want. It’s called the Western Digital HDTV media player. Works great with high definition TVs and its backwards compatible with the older analog TVs as well.
