[SOT/]SOUNDBITE [ENGLISH] SUPER: RICH HARVEY/ FIRE INCIDENT COMMANDER " that said, our focus remains on this fire, the Waldo Canyon Fire and as Jeri said the fire fighters made really good progress last night, no perimeter growth at all to report, not additional structures lost or damaged. so we're feeling really good about that." SOUNDBITE [ENGLISH] RICHIE REXACH//COLORADO SPRINGS FIRE FIGHTER] " there's a certain amount of sorry for what you've seen. but you just put it in the back of your head. most of us, really after we worked our shift, we just immediately crashed. we took a nap just to be able to get up to take a shower to take a nap. it was just exhausting. most of us fell asleep on the right here on the asphault, waiting to get to the next assignment. so we slept wherever we could, but we were always ready." SOUNDBITE [ENGLISH] RICHIE REXACH//COLORADO SPRINGS FIRE FIGHTER] " that's the one thing that really broke our hearts, we made our best effort to make a defensive line. one the ways, really the way we put a fire out is that we make a line. there's a line of defense we say to ourselves , the line stops here no more. we're trying to hold that but unfortunately because of the winds, the dryness, the weather the fire itself creates, it blasted right over us, it blasted it right over the lines, we could not hold it." SOUNDBITE [ENGLISH] SUPER: RICK MCNEW/COLORADO SPRINGS FIRE FIGHTER"the biggest thing is you know that weather change, the high winds that we get sometimes, i mean that could drive that fire significant. the wind is not our friend by any means." SOUNDBITE [ENGLISH] SUPER: RICK MCNEW/COLORADO SPRINGS FIRE FIGHTER "i think everybody's spirits are up, a lot of guys are tired, there's probably a lot of that emotional stress that builds over the days, this isn't something anybody sees on a daily basis, that you 340-something houses burn up and everything."(****END****) VIDEO PRODUCER: Pete---------------------------VIDEO SOURCE: AP-----------------------VIDEO APPROVAL: ----------------------------VIDEO RESTRICTIONS: None----------------------------------MARKET EMBARGO (S): None
