Once we get past a certain age, most of us aren't too eager for our birthdays to arrive.

While most people over the age of 30 despise that one special day a year which officially makes us older, there’s another hidden threat behind the dreaded birthday. A recent study from the journal Annals of Epidemiology indicates that humans are 14% more likely to die on their birthdays. Once past the age of 60, the percentage increases. While it appears to be a significant finding, the manner of death is varied. Heart attacks are up 18%, strokes up 21%, a 35% increase in suicides, and a 29% increase in non-vehicular accidents, all on birthdays. The study analyzed more than 2 million people who had passed away between 1969 and 2008. The question of why remains unanswered for now but some speculate alcohol or birthday partying could be a potential factor or the sadness and depression a birthday brings for some.

Many historical figures and celebrities have met their demise on the same day they were born including famous Kentucky Derby winning jockey, Johnny Longden, and playwright William Shakespeare.
