STORY: Suspended vice-captain Shane Watson on Monday (March 18) said he was looking forward to rejoining the Australian squad for the final test against India. Watson was dropped from the Australian squad for the third test in Mohali after failing to present three ideas on how the team could improve following their defeats in the first two tests. Mitchell Johnson, James Pattinson and Usman Khawaja were also sacked from the squad for the same reason. The incident reached a crisis situation after Cricket Australia high performance manager Pat Howard described Watson as "sometimes" a team player. Watson, who will fly out of Sydney on Monday night, said he has spoken to Howard and has sorted out the differences. "We've talked through a number of the different issues that we've had and unfortunately some of those were aired in public for public consumption but as I said we've put that behind us and we both certainly have the same goal to be able to do everything we possibly can to get the Australian cricket team to number one in all formats of the game and that's what we're certainly going to be doing," Watson said at news conference at Sydney airport. Following the disciplinary action, Watson had returned home to be with his pregnant wife for the birth of their first child. "I suppose also being away from the group has made me certainly miss not being around to be able to help out and also the other perspective of my life as well, certainly it puts life and cricket into perspective, exactly what it means to me to be able to play the game of cricket and I certainly always have and will continue to love the game of cricket and also the privilege and honour to be able to represent my country so, look, I'm just really excited to be able to get on the plane and be able to help out in any way I possibly can, for us to be able to turn our fortunes around," he added. A Cricket Australia news release said all issues had been resolved and congratulated Watson on the birth of his baby boy. Watson said he regretted his actions. "I really let myself and the team down by not doing what I was meant to do and for me I'm extremely disappointed that I did that and I have copped it on the chin, the things that have happened and I'm just really excited about moving forward now and whatever plays out in the future I'm just very excited to be able to get on the plane and get back into the swing of things with the group," he said. Once unbeatable, Australia are now ranked third in the world behind South Africa and England, who they face in back-to-back Ashes tests later this year. Delhi hosts the fourth test from Friday (March 22).
