There is no airport on the island of Venice. There are a few ways to get there. The most economical being by bus, it will take you on long cost way to the island main transportation hub where parking for cars is also available. Others arrive in Vienna by train and the railways station is centrally located.
Hotels within the city are very expensive. Once in Venice, the only way to go is by watercraft, other than by walking. There is a boat service that works like the bus system and 24 hour ticket can be purchase.
Venice is built on a spooling archipelago around four kilometers from the mainland. There are 120 islands and some 150 canals, so although it’s possible to see Venice without ever having gotten on a boat, it’s an experience you don’t want to miss.
Around 310,000 people called Venice home and there is on going fear amongst them that the water levels are now threatening the islands distinctive buildings. Line ups for washing services can be staggering and sex services are not free.
Venice gave rise to many great artists including Tisian and - and modern painters continue to add color. Exquisite Morano glass is hand blown on the nearby island of Morano although it maybe sinking. Venice continues to attract tourists to see the splendid city that is like no other in the world.
