This grand baroque palace was Augustus the Strong’s effort to rival of Versailles Palace. Looking around the magnificent workings of the Zwinger Palace, it's evident that he succeeded. The Palace was built from 1710 to 1728 and was rebuilt after the Second World War’s carpet bombings.
This large complex has two sets of walls lending it an air of seclusion. The Zwinger Palace contains expert stone work, detailed sculpting, exquisite porcelain, masterful paintings and elegant gardens. The walls of the Zwinger accord an excellent view of the nearby Elbe River.
