Yatagan Kebab House in Manhattan NY
Female: In the past episodes, we’ve highlighted various Turkish restaurants but in the west village of Manhattan, we’ve discovered a charming takeout café that specializes in doner kebabs. Yatagan is named after a Turkish sword and dishes out these kebabs to the masses, pasteurize on this.
Murat Kalipci: I'm from Sinop Turkey. I've been here since 1974, 22 years. Yatagan has been established since 1981. This is the first Turkish Kebab House in New York City. Doner is a Turkish word. Doner mean spinning kebab. Doner Kebab has been invented by person named Mr. Iskender. He is from Bursa. This goes back every—that use, but that’s his invention, Mr. Iskender. And up to today, people still love his invention. I eat this everyday. This is 100% healthy and fresh and good for you.
Especially these days, if you know what is in there, what you’re eating, you are safe and you will like it. And this is one of the original place in New York. Still, we do it the old fashion way. And we cook the meat everyday and fresh meat. You can’t go wrong with it. It’s very healthy. Gyro, don’t know what’s inside, it’s like a hotdog. This Doner is homemade handmade and meat delivery everyday and we cook the meat everyday, it’s fresh 100% lamb and a little bit of that. So, that’s the difference between Doner Kebab and Gyro. If you don’t eat meat, we got chicken shish kebab, breast of chicken on the grill or we have steak shish kebab and for the people who are vegetarians, we have falafel, we have hommes, baba ghanoush, we have everything for everybody.
Do you know where the good stuff is especially late at night, we got Turkey celebrities, we got a lot of American celebrities, Irish celebrities, they got a lot of people over here. they know where there good food is. I'm going to tell you one, Colin Frow. Colin Frow loves this. Colin Frow, he loves this stuff. He’s a great guy. I was glad to meet him and hopefully he’ll stop by again. Hopefully yes. Everyone, every nationality would love it because it’s not overly spiced, it’s not heavy and it’s fresh. They can’t go wrong with it. All they have to do is had a one try and they’re going to love it.
