Visit the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, DC

Hi, I'm Naomi and I am very excited to show you The World's Greatest Attractions. The
Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C. can sometimes be lost among the taller, older
monuments in the city. Directly south of the White House on the basin of the Potomac
River, this site is dedicated to America's third president, Thomas Jefferson.
The memorial was finished around 1943 and dedicated by then-president Franklin
Roosevelt. The design took inspiration from the Pantheon and Jefferson's own Rotunda at
the University of Virginia. The interior features a bronze statue of Jefferson and quotes
from his greatest works, including the Declaration of Independence. The numerous
cherry blossom trees around the memorial were dedicated by the Japanese people in
1912. The memorial is open 24 hours a day to the people, who Jefferson lived to serve
