Visit the Haunted French Quarter in New Orleans
Sidney Smith: Hi. My name is Sidney Smith. I'm the owner of Haunted History Tours here in New Orleans.
Tonight, we’re going to be taking The Haunted History Tour with your tour guide, Rene Laizier.
Rene Laizier: Hello my name is Rene Laizier.
Today we’ll be taking a walk-in tour of the French Quarter, the sites of the actual documented haunters.
Folks, we’re here at the number one most haunted building in the French Quarter.
This behind me right here is the Lalaurie Mansion also known as the Blight of New Orleans.
In 1830’s, a woman by the name of Delphine Lalaurie inherited $3 million from her grandparents. She used that fortune apart as this mansion moves in with her doctor husband, Doctor Louis Leonard Lalaurie.
So gray was her taste that she had the entire first floor gutted out and converted to ballroom complete with an Italian marble floor.
Over the years during her parties, people know she likes to disappear then shock in entirely new dress. I heard last night in New Orleans it would be revealed why she was having to change her dress.
Midway through a party, a fire breaks down in the kitchen which is now the parking garage. The fire department enters and they quickly put out small grease fire but they overhear the slayers talking about the atrocities going on inside.
The end of the kitchen and to the ballroom and all the party guest out into this sidewalk much like you all are standing right now.
Of course the firefighters, they entered this building and make their way up to third floor.
There they make a very ghastly discovery. One room, several victims in various states of torture first to which is a woman faced down the floor. Her arms and legs have been surgically removed from her one by one.
Found, a woman inside of a box. They had to take this box apart to get her out of it. That’s when they realized that her bones and joints have been broken and dislocates so she could be folded up and put into that box.
Two men are shackled against the walls both their face horribly disfigured. The only thing keeping them alive — maggots. The last person found is a woman, no cuts and marks or bruises but dizzily shaking.
The firefighters unlock her. Instead of her thanking them for setting her free from these people, she takes off running, comes crashing out that window which you now see bricked up on the third floor. On her way down, her neck hits the gallery really snapping her neck, flopping her dentistry in front of all the party guests.
