Around Los Quegantes the former fishing villages from Plyer to Sub Juan to Puerto de Santiago have joined and offer sandy beaches and good hotels to vacationers.

Many people don’t know that the islands weren’t named after the bird canary, but the other way around. The song birds with bright yellow feathers are resolved to the last four centuries of breeding. Originally, they were insignificant birds with grayish green feathers which lived only in the high mountains of Tenerife and the local Tedi bird.
The people who gave the name to the island formed the word from the Latin “Canes” meaning dog. Some people think the landing people found an unknown copula kind of dog here. According to elder sources the Spanish intended to outrage Guange natives with the word meaning dog.
Above the harbors behind the summer houses on the hillsides, the giant cliffs rise. The blocks of bare cliffs of Teno Mountain are 500m high; at their foot the sea is 2,000 meters deep. Dolphins and whales like living here and they attract many tourists especially from Europe who don’t often sea dolphins in their habitat.
The cliff formations of Los de Gantes are liked not only by tourists by also by divers and fisherman. Crew ships often go so close to the cliffs walls that the grand natural formations can be touched.
