The Phi Phi Islands belong to the most popular tourist spectacles of Thailand. The popular Thai sardines are processed in the canning factories, floating on the sea. From Phuket, the trip is 3 hours by speedboat to the island of Phi Phi Don which is a tourist paradise known for its wonderful beaches and for its coral formations that can be found around the island.
The smaller island, Phi Phi Lee is inhabited and is mostly popular with divers. Even from a large distance, the coast of the tropical island, girdled by palm trees can be seen together with the busy port bustling the ships.
On Phi Phi there's no car traffic at all and even motor bikes are only used by the locals for transportation. On the island, romantic and stylish accommodation is offered, mainly in small bungalows. Lovers of diving stream to Phi Phi from all over the world. We can get equipment here and even instructors. And a small hospital is also prepared for diving accidents.
The island is covered by a beautiful florist of coconut palms giving shade. Coconuts are harvested in a traditional and dangerous manner. The fresh coconut milk, especially when cooled is a very pleasantly refreshing drink. Its flesh can be eaten fresh or dried. The coconut fiber can also be used in many ways, for example, to make organic mattresses. Flower pots are made from the coconut shelves.
On the island, only one multistoried hotel and several bungalows can be found. Open restaurants, bars, pubs, fish restaurants, souvenir and diving store lie in the streets.
Phi Phi Don developed from two rocky islands, connected by a sandy promontory forming its two base, which turn their backs on one another. One of them is the port, the other one is the beach, but it's also possible to find a good swimming place around the port.
The water has a wonderful light blue color and it's very shallow. This beach offers the same entertainment and sports opportunities as Phuket. The island can be a starting point for other excursions. We can rent typical long motorboats, which we can use to cruise around the island and we can Phi Phi Lee on Maya Bay.
The boatman, who are mostly Malays handle their motorboats with virtuosity. The majestic view of the cliffs is similar to what we see on Phang Nga.
Maya bay is a diver’s paradise, which recently become famous for the filming of Leonardo De Caprio’s movie “The Coast.” It's no wonder that filmmakers were also enchanted by the beauty of the untouched nature, the variety of shapes and colors that delight the eye.
Viking cave can be approached by boat. It got its name after the wall paintings found inside depicting boats. Common swifts also live in his limestone cave, the nest of which is the main ingredient for the famous soup, but the flora and fauna of the Phi Phi Islands is also impressive otherwise. On the cliffs, for example, friendly monkey families live.
Let's take advantage of the fact that the normally balmy, salty air of the sea is entirely free from the pollution of gasses emitted by cars. Let's take a pleasant evening walk under the whispering palms. What else could be for dinner then seafood, of course, we can find European restaurants, however, we can hardly find anything healthier than the fresh fish, crabs and clams that are prepared very tastily in a variety of methods and served in a manner that’s pleasant in the eye.
After dinner, we can try the light local beer or bid farewell to this tropical dream island with the fruit cocktail.
