Korond has best preserved the traditions of pottery. The settlement of 5,000 people is the southeast border of the salt land and is famous for its pottery. Most houses function as workshops at the same time but the masters make plates, vases, pots and mugs based on traditional patterns. The most spectacular part is to watch a piece being thrown on the potter’s wheel, the master uses the experience of several centuries in his work.

After shaping the enamel is put on, then the objects are baked. At the beginning of the summer potters fairs are organized but we can write pottery anytime of the year. The craft is passed on from father to son but also the female members of the family often do there a bit. Though all over Transylvania the pottery have caught on this and sold, we can only be sure of buying an original in Korond from the local manufacturers.
