Visit Gananoqué, Ontario
Located midway between Toronto and Montreal, Gananoqué is known as the gateway to the thousand islands. The population of the picturesque town is small it’s just over 5,000 people but it swells in the summer time and the downtown streets bustle with tourists discovering fabulous little shops.
Visit the town hall which was built in the 1830’s and was once the private residents of the McDonald family. The areas rich and lengthy history has helped to span a lively antiques industry with whimsical old shops that feature nostalgic art and unique collectibles. There are a number of centrally located antique shops including some clustered near the water front. As you tour the town, stop in at the Gananoqué museum where the Victorian era comes to life with artifacts and portraits.
It’s easy to find the tourist information center where you can pick up maps and brochures and see a remnant of the thousand island railway. This is water a sports capital, beautifully engulfed by lake and the area is rich with charming bed and breakfast and cozy inns that emphasize small town ambiance.
Gananoqué is famous for its historic stone buildings that have been renovated back to service a wide range of industries. More famous are the scenic parks and area attractions such as the boat tour of the thousand islands that attract thousands of visitors each year.
