Hello, this is Colm Hanratty from hostelworld.com and I'm in very good form because I am in
Bellay beach in Australia which is the city’s most famous beach. Used to live here a long time
ago, back in 1999 to 2000 in a place called Kailua Street.
Now I'm going to make two entries in Sydney because I'm going to be here for two weeks. This
first entry is a few tips for backpackers out there who are coming to live here. If you are coming
to live here, first thing you need to is get a tax file number. If not, you're going to be screwed in
tax and you don’t want that. Unless you're paying them at hand of course. After that you also
need to go and find yourself a place to live and I have to show you this place again because I
love this place. Sydney was probably, Bellay was my favorite place in the world for a long time.
So I live here for eight months. You also need to go and find a place to live.
To do that, you can do it online, you can do it through the newspaper. I think in the Sydney
Morning Herald would good time to go and check listings and also go to real estate agents. And
they don’t really like backpackers but you might get lucky.
Now also the only thing that you need to do is find work. Now if you're coming here you need to
register with agencies. There's a magazine called 9 to 5. What you need to do is register with
agencies. Some of the agencies specialized in nursing, some agencies specialized in legal work,
some agencies specialized in people looking for accounting work, so again check the yellow
pages and check 9 to 5.
And then the only thing you need to do is set up a bank account. And to do that, there are
different ways you can do it. You can actually set them up online before you go. For more
