Visit Abbotsford House in Scotland
Abbortsford house is the most interesting Scottish castle because the man who had it built was he who probably knew and love the history, traditions, landscapes and castles of the country more than anybody else. Sir Walter Scott spent his whole childhood in the neighborhood on this grandfather’s state in Sandyknow and he lost his heart for the valley of the Tweed River. As a result of the disease in childhood he lived, so instead of doing sports and playing games, he spent his time reading.
He became fascinated by Scottish tales and ballads, he collected ballads and later he wrote some. After Viran had appeared, he looked for and found a new genre the historic novel. His novels Kenworth, Red Goblet, Rob Roy and Ivanhoe which has been screened several times are popular worldwide.
As the judge of the region he made a good fortune. He bought Carphone Estate in 1799 and renamed it to be Abbertzherd because the estate used to belong to Marrows Abbey. 13 years later he saved up enough to begin construction. He asked William Mackinson the designer to build the castle in Scottish romance style taking the Baron castles build in the previous centuries as models. That’s why we can find the copy of the ornate gate of the nearby Abbey where the ceiling of the library is the exact copy of the chapel in Roseland. He collected historic objects with the passion. His desk was made of one of the pieces of furniture from of the ships of Spanish armada.
Several of the pieces of his arm collection, we’re collected at the Battle of Waterloo. He has a stroke in 1830 but he was still able to finish two novels. He left to where a village on the Mediterranean Sea to improve his health but this was fatal. On the 21st of September 1832 he asked his family to take his bed to the dinning room from where he could see the river. During this funeral the hearse stop at the look tower which has been named after him since then as the writer in his life have done so many times.
