Hi, this is Mike Callahan, “Dr. File Finder” and welcome back to Butterscotch.com special series on Upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7.

Windows 7 has launch, there's a great deal of excitement about it, we’re here on the homepage. And we at butterscotch.com wants you to be sure of what your upgrade options are and exactly how to upgrade short of buying a new PC with Windows 7 are already installed. So upgrading to Windows 7 from Vista only this version of Vista can upgrade while other versions of Vista a clean install. So the versions that can upgrade are Windows Vista ultimate to Windows 7 ultimate, Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows Home Premium and Windows Vista Business to Windows 7 Professional.

Keep in mind also that with this three that can upgrade, the upgrade must be install into the same directly where Windows Vista resides. The upgrade requires 6 GB of free space where as the clean install requires 16 GB. The base language must match so if your installation of Vista is in English, so much your installation of Windows 7. If you and upgrade, your Vista folder will be renamed to C:\Windows.Old and you’ll have access to it.
