Here’s WLNE with the details . “Dalhousie University is creating a puppy room in December to give students a way to cope with anxiety from end-of-term assignments.” According to CTV News , the service is a cooperative effort between the school and Therapeutic Paws of Canada. This organization facilitates therapy animal visits for nursing homes, hospitals, schools and other settings. Therapeutic Paws say having a connection with animals is calming, stimulating and even helps people recover faster from surgery. CBC News says the idea was first pitched online and has attracted a ton of attention. More than 1,300 people have liked the post on Facebook and many more have shared the event. The group is already looking to expand the program by allowing students to walk the dogs if they don’t want to stand in line. After pitching the idea, Michael Kean said... "It's a great idea. There's no downfall about therapy dogs. Students, we're stressed out, don't know what to do, and they're fluffy. It comes down to that." According to the Huffington Post , Dalhousie isn’t the first university in Canada to host an event of this kind. The University of Ottawa and McGill University are among the other schools turning to four-legged companions to help stressed-out students. McGill’s event organizer said... “Some students said they missed their family dog back home and needed to get a puppy fix. Others had come from an exam and were looking for a distraction.” Dalhousie will be hosting the puppies December 4th through 6th. Students will get the chance to hang out with 8 different dogs, including a labradoodle, a sheltie and a St. Bernard.
