Image Source: United Nations BY JAMAL ANDRESS In the United Nation’s 70 year history it has never made an appeal as large as the one it made Wednesday. The CBC has the story. “The United Nations called for massive international aid for Syria today. It says a billion dollars is needed to care for refugees in neighboring countries and an additional half a billion dollars is needed to help those still in Syria but internally displaced.” According to the United Nations more than 525,000 people have fled Syria to head to neighboring countries and for good reason. The fighting has continued with another 161 people dying Wednesday across Syria. The list of needs in Syria is very long but the 1.5 billion has been allocated in several different directions. "The plan provides for food, shelter and bedding, water and sanitation, emergency medical services, clothes, kitchen sets and baby supplies for beleaguered civilians in all 14 provinces. " A problem with this plan that some outlets seem to be reporting is deciding who will actually get the food, supplies and money. Here’s Fox News . “We cannot actually send this food to the Syrian people as long as there is civil war... The idea here is to make sure that the organizations we are going to work with, meaning the United Nations and people on the ground are Non Governmental Organizations.” According to CNN , The United Nations is also asking for $520 million in the near future anticipating that the situation will only get worse in 2013.
