KELLY EDWARDS: Hi. I’m Kelly Edwards, and this is my GMC Trade Secret.
Now, color is extremely influential on creating a mood and setting in any room. It can influence architecture by making a small room actually look bigger or a big room look smaller.
Now, choosing the right color for your room is easier than you think. You just have to think about what the purpose is for your room that you’re actually painting. Is it an office? Is it a bedroom? And what kind of mood do you want to create? Do you want inspiring? Relaxing? Cheerful? Active colors, or even passive colors?
And next you need to look for sources of inspiration. And that can be anywhere. That can be inside your house or actually outside your house. It may be a fruit bowl. It may be flowers outside, a piece of art or your favorite shirt. So you need to pull in those colors that reflect the tone and the feeling you want to convey and bring them into your space.
Now, once you choose your color that you want, here’s a little trick that I like to do. Now, I go to my local paint store and I pick up a tiny sample. And then I go to my craft store and I actually pick up a poster board, and then I paint that color onto my poster board and then tape it to the wall. And I leave it up for several days. And the reason why I do that is I want to see what this color looks like during different times of the day. So during the day, this color may look lighter than at night. So I can certainly see if I like this color in my space.
