KELLY EDWARDS: Hi. I’m Kelly Edwards, and I’ve got a great GMC Trade Secret for you, all about decorative pillows.
Now, the right pillows can be the perfect element that ties everything together in a room. Now, I’ll show you how simple it can be to make some of your own fantastic pillows. Now, some of my designs are just adding embellishments, like the pillows I have here, and others are taking unexpected elements and actually creating a pillow.
Now, the first one I have is just this plain pillow here. And I really wanted to add a band of color. An easy way to do that is just cut a piece of fabric and wrap it around, and then take what’s called interfacing. And what interfacing is is it just binds two fabrics together. And you do that with an iron. So you just want to cut a piece of interfacing and then iron it between two pieces of fabric.
Okay, so after the fabric is bonded together, you just want to flip your pillow over like so, and now you have a band that’s across the fabric. Now, the cool thing about making a band for your pillow is that, as your style changes or even for the holidays, you could actually iron on a new band and just slip it off.
So, now, if your edges here are frayed on the fabric that you have around your pillow, just grab some ribbon and you can simply grab some fabric glue, like I have here, and then just run a bead of fabric glue all along the edges and stick on your ribbon. Then you just want to place it down here like so and work all the way around.
So here’s one way to dress up your existing pillows. Another way is to grab a doily. And you may have this lying around your house and you’re just not using it. Place it on the pillow where you want it, which I think that looks about good, and then take your fabric glue again and simply put a few dabs on your pillow. And this will adhere the doily to the pillow.
Okay, so now I’ve taken two very plain pillows and made them ultra-stylish.
Now, here’s an idea that I really love. Now, I’m going to turn this place mat into a pillow by removing all the stitching on one side and then filling it with batting. Okay, so now that my stitching’s removed, I’m going to stuff my batting into the inside. Okay, so now that I’ve stuffed my place mat here, I’m just going to hand-stitch it, and I have a pillow.
Now, this is just one design, but there are so many designs out there that will look gorgeous as a pillow on your sofa.
I’m Kelly Edwards, and this is my GMC Trade Secret on unique pillow designs, presented by the GMC Acadia. Not a bad design there either.
