Automatic sprinkler valves that won't shut completely? Try taking them apart and cleaning them out.
As Sean Stefan of Sprinkler ...
Daddy ( http://www.SprinklerDaddy.ca ) shows in this video with an Orbit Automatic Sprinkler Valve, sometimes dirt, pebbles, or rocks can get into the valve and prevent it from closing. Your first option with a disfunctional valve should almost always be to clean it up first before you replace the entire valve.
Hey I’m Shawn from Sprinkler Daddy and in this video I just want to go thru a couple of troubleshooting for you with these Orbit Automatic Valves.
Sometimes, a common problem that we hear a lot of times is actually getting the valves to shut off completely. We’ve had a few people call after installing and say, you know there’s a slow leak, it seems like in one of the valves, and it’s not an actual problem with the valve in 95% of the time, most of the time, it is just a problem with simple cleaning.
So, basically I’ve started this one already but you can see that there are screws all the way around to keep in the top of the valve on top. What you’re going to do is unscrew those on your problem valve, and then this top is going to pop off and there’s going to be a spring in there, so be careful about that.
And then there’s going to be an O-ring on there. And you could actually take that off too. And just make sure there’s no dirt or pebbles or stones or anything. The smallest bit of debris that gets into these valves can actually disrupt the valve from actually shutting off, so if you’re experiencing some troubles getting your valve to shut off, that’s one option.
And another option anecdotally what we’ve been finding is if you’ve been trying to test them manually and you can’t get them shut off manually, we’ve had people that have wired it up to the timer and run this zone, cycle through the zones, that way and the valve shut off like usual.
So that’s just a couple of tips if you’re having some troubles on the install of your Orbit Automatic Valves and hopefully—try those things and hopefully something will help your solution there.
