Male Speaker: ADHD. How is it treated?
Mary Beth Decey: There are several treatments for ADHD. The number one only research based proven treatment for ADHD is medication. But that does not mean that everybody who has ADHD, has to take medication or has to it for their whole lives.
Probably the best combination is, ADHD with some behavior modification that goes along with it. And where you basically are learning some strategies and skills for dealing with whether you’re impulsive or you’re disorganized or you are inattentive. Also education is huge. And so, people that have it and parents whose children have it, the more you know about it, the better you can treat it. Environmental modifications are important and that would be for instance, children that are in are in school with it, like their five or four plans, that they might need to sit closer to the teacher. They might need to take their tests in an environment where they won’t be distracted.
And then some times family counseling is needed. Sometimes individual counseling is needed.
Male Speaker: Treatment results vary from person to person. So what is important to work with your physician to find the treatment option that best meets your needs. For icyou.com I am Jack Rittenhouse.
