Kitchen Design - Fun Traditional ideas - as part of the home design series by GeoBeats.
Hi. I am Robin Baron from Robin Baron Design. Confidence begins at home, and the home begins in the kitchen. This is a traditional kitchen with a little bit of a modern spin, a contemporary feel to it. What I love about the kitchen is the white. White cabinets are very classic and it is mixed with an island that is in stained walnut. So it is the mixing of materials that does make a difference in the details in this clean, classic kitchen. This commercial cooktop paired with the pot filler above it gives it the traditional flavor that the kitchen is crying for. But the backsplash in all stainless steel gives it the twist towards the contemporary and that is a really cool look. Above it, the fan for the hood is hidden behind the millwork, the white painted cabinetry front, and that gives it the warmth that the kitchen needs.
And to mix things up, because I never like to play it straight -- there is never a reason to play it safe, guys -- look at this island. This checkerboard woodwork is actually the cutting board and it is near the sink. So as you chop your vegetables, it is easy to get into the sink and into the disposal. But it looks so cool! And the detail of the island -- again it is the white marble that matches the rest of the kitchen -- but the island itself is in stained walnut. So we are throwing things together and juxtaposing things so it does not look cookie-cutter. And whether it is traditional or modern, do not be afraid to mix it up. Mix it together and create your own classic.
