The around 11,000 residents were issued an evacuation order as water levels at a nearby major river were due to further rise. The Macleay River, infamous for its flooding, is expected to reach a peak of 7.3 metres on Sunday. Parts of the Pacific Highway have been closed and are likely not to open for at least two days. A low pressure system is causing high winds, heavy rains and flooding to most of the east coast of New South Wales.
