Madrid is a business center that had its beginning in the 9th century. There are more than three million people which make a tremendously busy downtown. Many tourist s will head first to the attractions of historical interest. The royal palace was built in the 18th century on top of a 9th century fortress. It’s the intricate ceilings and the priceless tapestries and the golden rooms that make it a really popular tourist attraction.
Madrid is characterized by intense cultural and artistic activity and is the home of the renowned Prado museum. Despite intense heat especially in the summer months, people like to be outdoors. Open-air markets abound including the famous Rastro Flea market which is open in weekends. Madrid is enriched with refreshing parks and gardens. Some of which are adorned with beautiful statues. They are beautiful places to be and one can often find rest pit from the heat of the day. The city has over 50 museums and art galleries, opera houses, shopping by the mile, and a sense of -- at every turn.
