The tornado kick is an excellent technique to use on the paddle as well as in sparring match, but the reason why it's so good to practice this on the paddles because when you throw your tornado kick and you are spinning, you are not exactly sure where you should be snapping your kick and the paddle helps you align your technique so you can execute that snap right at the exact moment. Let's watch these kicks in slow motion.
This is an awesome kick to generate lots of momentum. I also like this kick because it resembles two completely different kicks. The moment I begin my spin can you guess which ones they are? It's the back kick and the spin and hook kick. Now watch again in slow motion, how I spin right there, I could be throwing a back kick or I could have been throwing a spin and hook kick.
Now it's just a fraction of a second, but in high level competition your opponents will be able to pick up on that fraction of a second and the moment they see you begin to turn, they don't have time to think about whether you are going to be throwing a back kick, a hook kick or a tornado kick. So it's a good way to catch your opponent off guard.
