Audra Lowe: Over the holidays we can find ourselves in the kitchen quite a bit. So why not make the experience more pleasant? We met up with dailycandy.com to check out five simple kitchen gadgets that will change your life.
Dannielle: You know, no matter how much time I kitchen, what I realize is there’s always room for improvement. Daily Candy rounded up some really amazing, very easy discoveries that will change your life in the kitchen and I want to show you.
So whether you have a garbage disposal or not all the kitchen scraps gets caught in the drain catcher. When you just have a normal drain catcher, it’s kind of a ping because everything gets caught and tangled and when you’re ready to clean it out, you got stuff stuck in there with the little bits get caught. It gets really gnarly.
The life changing solution here is by Oxo. It’s a silicone drain catcher. So when it’s tome to empty it, just flip it inside out, everything is set. You can bend it as much as you like. It’s super sturdy. You can put it in the dishwasher so no more mess.
Nothing works than a kitchen chore like mincing garlic or peeling shrimp that leaves you with smelly hands impossible to enjoy dinner when you can’t get the smell off your hands.
So, I don’t know how it works, it’s called Rub Away and that’s what it does. It rubs away the scent. Looks like a bar soap made of stainless steel. Just use it as if it were soap. Rub the affected parts on the stainless steel. Really rub it on there with water. No more garlic, scent-free, perfect.
I always wondered how the guy at the Italian restaurant gave you the perfect, easy, effortless shave of parmesan without breaking a sweat. Grating seems so complicated, not with a microplane.
It’s like a grater but it’s just so much easier. It has little knobs of blades all around. You don’t have to exert yourself and it shaves cheese, fruit rind, pretty much you need to finally grate. Nothing works like a microplane.
When a recipe call for the juice of the lemon or lime, I get really nervous because trying to squeeze it with your hands and avoid seeds, it got to really nerve wrecking. So, this is really easy but it took me a long time to find a juicer.
Green so you remember is for the lime. You just smash it in and this little device does the work for you. You get as much juice as possible out of each half. It’s not hard to squeeze so even with a little arthritis you can actually do it. It trap s the seeds, everything’s fine and you didn’t waste a drop.
When you’re cooking at a storm and you have a lot of pots and pans on the stove or maybe you’re searing something in a pan and then sticking it in the oven to finish it, getting this on and off your hand, the big oven mitten, it just doesn’t work.
I discovered this tiny little handle holder. It’s about $9.95. You get it at Crate and Barrel. You stick it on and now everything’s easier. It will just turn navigate your stove and keep your hand safe.
And the very best part about all these truly life changing kitchen discoveries, not one of them cost more than $20.
Audra Lowe: All right. There was kitchen gadgets also made great stocking stuff or houses gift too, just an idea. We’ll be right back.
