The latest in a string of protests prompted by an anti-Islam film. Thousands of people took to the streets of Afghanistan Monday. Here’s Channel 4 London.

“Cars were set on fire and chants of "Death to America" were shouted in the capital, Kabul. US embassies across the region are on high alert following the violence.”

Afghani police reportedly responded to the protests by firing shots into the air. Sky News reports the Afghan government is attempting to suppress the violence as quickly as possible.

“They tried to block YouTube but it probably was not successful. They have been appealing to the media not to broadcast or is about the film, and President Hamid Karzai cancelled a foreign trip to be here.”

This comes on the same day of deadly protests in neighboring Pakistan. Here’s CNN with more.

“in Pakistan an effigy of US President Barack Obama was burned. In the Northwest police say a protester was shot dead in clashes. in Indonesia there was similar balance to put between police and protesters and could be more unrest ahead.”

Protests in more than 20 countries have erupted since the murder of American ambassador to Libya, J. Christopher Stevens last week. As of Monday, the media is primarily focusing on protests in Lebanon, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
