100 yen - in Japan enough to get you a bottle of mineral water, a ball-psystem.scripts.oint pen, even a burger at McDonald's. It's also the next big target traders are pegging for the yen's slide against the dollar, from its historical peak of 75.31 hit in October 2011. The last time the dollar traded above 100 yen was in April 2009. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's calls for aggressive monetary easing have brought the weak yen back, much to the relief of Japan's exporters. (SOUNDBITE) (English) REUTERS REPORTER, YONGGI KANG, SAYING: "Recent rises in the currency have indicated the power of 'Abenomics' may be limited. So will the yen hit the 100 per dollar mark? Here's what veteran market watchers have to say." (SOUNDBITE) (English) GLOBAL FX STRATEGIST, COUTTS, BRIAN JACKSON, SAYING: "I don't think so in the near term, at least. I think that the yen weakness that we have seen over the last couple of months has already been pretty big and there's already pricing in some fairly aggressive monetary policy changes from the Japanese going forward. So if anything, I expect to see some consolidation and even near-term reversal of some of those yen losses over the next few months." (SOUNDBITE) (English) CHAIRMAN, ROGERS HOLDINGS, JIM ROGERS, SAYING: "I don't know. Mr. Abe has said he is going to drive it…who knows where Mr. Abe says he's going to drive it. I don't know that it will. The yen has shot straight down in the past two months, as you well know. I would suspect it is probably time for the yen to go the other way for a while just because it has been so, so, so weak for the last little bit". (SOUNDBITE) (English) HEAD OF ASIA PACIFIC EQUITY STRATEGY, HSBC, HERALD VAN DER LINDE, SAYING: "HSBC is actually looking at yen strength until year-end. We are not large believers that actually the BOJ - the Bank of Japan - is going to make dramatic changes in its monetary policies. But that is not the scenario which the market is playing at the moment. It's looking at further yen weakness." (SOUNDBITE) (English) FOUNDER AND MANAGING DIRECTOR, ASIANOMICS, JIM WALKER, SAYING: "We're expecting the yen to weaken further, for sure, as the new Bank of Japan governor takes over in mid-March. Whether it's going to hit 100 in the short-term, I'm not quite sure. But certainly on a technical basis it looks as if it's headed to 100 over the course of the next few months." ENDS
