The Weather Channel app is a very powerful weather app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. This app allows you to take pretty much all of the information available on TheWeatherChannel.com and bring it with you wherever you go.
The app is broken into different sections to make everything easier to navigate. There are five tabs down bottom: Weather, Explore Map, Video, Severe, and More. Weather is the default page you start on and the app will ask to locate you to find out the information relevant to your area. You can also manually enter in a location if you’re looking weather information from elsewhere. You can see weather information through four filters: current, hourly, 36 hour, and 10 day.
Explore Map is one of the coolest features this app offers. Basically, it allows you to apply multiple layers over the map so you can see all sorts of interesting weather related information over the standard Google maps. The video area will automatically launch a video with related weather information to your current location. The severe tab will provide you with updates on severe weather alerts in the area that you’ve set the app to recognizes as your location.
Everything about this app trumps the standard Weather app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Unfortunately due to the limitations of the iPhone, the severe weather alerts won’t be able to keep you up to date without the app being open. Perhaps if they allowed you to set a phone number for text alert updates they could get around this issue. If you’re in need of a better weather app for the iPhone, download The Weather Channel app.
