You know I hear this very often. You know, in society we have heard an awful lot about eat your broccoli and you are not going to get a heart attack. We have heard a lot about cholesterol, diabetes. Sleep apnea is an evolutionary development now. This is a new evolving field that I think the consumers are just starting to understand and learn about, and there are lot of skeptics and I would encourage them to get information, you know data is key. The more you know the better decisions you make.
Many of my patients when I present to them the fact that their sleep study has severe sleep apnea are really unbelieved; they don’t believe what they are hearing from me. They want to get another sleep study and the third sleep study because they just can’t believe they have the disorder. Time will bring clarity to this and society will understand the ramifications of sleep apnea over the next fives years in much more clear detail, very much like they understand heart disease and diabetes and high cholesterol.
