It runs on pure electric power on ampere current, that's where Opels new concept car gets it's name, the Ampera. Powered by electricity alone, the Ampera has a range of 60 kilometers, have no fear, it won't just conk out on you after that, thanks to it's range extender. A little gasoline engine that functions like a generator, feeding power to the electric engine while driving, enabling a range of several hundred kilometers.
The design much resembles that of the Chevy Volt. It also has a lot in common with the Opel Insignia. 4 meters 40 in length and just about, a meter 80 wide, the sedan has extremely aerodynamic lights. Four seats and 301 liters of cargo capacity meet the demands for interior space and comfort. Two info screens and an intuitively operational touch screen infotainment center underline the technological progress the car represents as a whole.
The Ampera impresses with it's low operational cost. Opel estimates the battery power in Ampera only cost a fifth of what a conventional gas powered car would need to go 1 kilometer. The battery can be charged at any ordinary 230 volt outlet.
Opel presented it's electric concept at the 2009 Geneva motor show, series protection is not schedule until 2011. Opel hopes the Ampera will then electric the world.
