This story dates back thousands of years to Ancient Mexico - just kidding - nachos are not that old, a rare exception to the other invention stories.It is believed that nachos originated in Piedras Negras, Mexico. As the story goes, roughly a dozen military wives stopped at a restaurant called the Victory Club while on a shopping trip in 1943. The dining enterprise was closed for the day, however the ladies were let in. Chef, Ignacio "Nacho" Anaya utilized what he had in the kitchen and served the women tortillas covered in a cheese sauce with shredded cheese and jalapeño peppers.He heated his newly invented concoction of ingredients and served it to the women. He named his dish ‘Nacho's especiales’ and word quickly spread. His dish was soon listed in the Victory Club’s official menu. Anaya later began working at another restaurant in the area and he took his nacho recipe with him. The eatery still uses the same recipe to this day. Chef Anaya continued to move up in the dining business, as he opened up his own establishment called, Nacho's Restaurant. A waitress working in a Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles is credited for bringing nachos in the American spotlight.
