Inspired by Airstream recreational vehicle trailers, first build in 1931, the Ford Airstream Vehicle made its debut in 2007. The Detroit Auto Show unveiled for its rational futuristic cross over concept. The SUV runs on electric power, it is battery powered with plug-in capability. The onboard charger can be refilled at home. Ford estimate the combined city-highway fuel economy rating at 41 miles per gallon. The vehicle can travel 25 miles on all electric power and an extra 280 miles when hydrogen is added. It is exhaust emission is water vapor.
Several vintage characteristics influenced Ford's model including clever storage solutions designed specifically for certain implements such as cameras, flashlights and first aid kits. Ford group also adapted Airstream's trademark reflective metallic shine. Its doors are asymmetric such that the passenger side door is a power clamshell hatch that runs two-thirds the length of the vehicle. The car's interior has a lounge atmosphere equipped with high-tech gadgets, internet access, 4 point safety belts and various ambient settings.
Other features include touch sensitive controls and a single multi function gauge display with primary driving information.
