The Effects of Drinking Water on Your Skin
Hello, I am Dr. Neal Schultz and welcome to DermTV.
We’ve all heard at one time or another in our lives that you are supposed to drink eight glasses of water a day in order to have healthy and hydrated skin. I have no idea where that came from. I know of no medical study, I know of no scientific study that has ever demonstrated that.
Drinking a glass of water does not directly hydrate your skin. Of course, if you are in a proverbial desert and you are completely dehydrated. Drinking a glass of water is going to help your skin as it will the rest of your body. But, drinking a glass of water doesn’t directly correlate with the appearance of your skin. So, think of it this way, if you’re thirsty, drink water.
Thirst is your body’s mechanism that tells you that your body needs water. But if your skin is dry, try a moisturizer.
